Call of Duty: WW2 Brings Back Fan Favorite Game Mode

Call of Duty: WW2 Brings Back Fan Favorite Game Mode

Call of Duty: WW2 may be criticized for it use of loot boxes and microtransactions, but the game’s latest community event is sure to earn it some goodwill with fans. Sledgehammer Games has launched the Winter Siege event, which runs from December 8 to January 2, and brings with it a number of goodies. Most notably, Call of Duty: WW2 players can finally play Gun Game.

Gun Game, the fan favorite game mode that was originally introduced in Call of Duty: Black Ops, is now in Call of Duty: WW2 as part of the Winter Siege event. It’s unclear at this point if Gun Game will stay in Call of Duty: WW2 once the event is over, but considering its popularity, it may be wise for Sledgehammer Games to make it a permanent part of the game’s multiplayer experience.

Besides Gun Game, the Winter Siege event has some other bonuses its bringing to the table as well. As explained in the trailer below, the Winter Siege event will have double XP playlists with rotating game modes, a winter variant of the Carentan season pass map, free weekly loot boxes with winter-themed items, and a slew of new weapons players can add to their arsenal.

Players can earn up to five new weapons in Call of Duty: WW2 during the Winter Siege event by completing special orders. The new weapons include the German-manufactured Gewehr 43, the lightweight Stem SMG, and the GPMG. Besides guns, players will also be able to get their hands on a pickax, just in case the shovel is getting dull, as well as a new knife.

Along with this new content, Call of Duty: WW2 players will also notice some changes to existing areas of the game. The Headquarters social space, for example, is being given a festive makeover for the holidays, complete with Christmas lights, trees, and snow. While at Headquarters, players will be able to interact with Butcher, who serves as the new quartermaster for the duration of the Winter Siege event.

Overall, Call of Duty: WW2‘s Winter Siege event should go a long way in keeping fans engaged with the game throughout the month of December. The inclusion of Gun Game is sure to be a draw for longtime fans of the franchise, and the chance to earn limited-time loot will likely be too hard to pass up for many. All things considered, it should give Call of Duty: WW2 fans plenty of reasons to keep playing until The Resistance DLC launches at the end of January.

Call of Duty: WW2 is available now for PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
