The day that many Destiny 2 fans have been waiting for is finally here. After three months, the first expansion pack known as Curse of Osiris has finally arrived bringing with it a new location to discover on Mercury as well as a new story that centers around the mysterious Warlock, Osiris. Of course, with a new expansion, players also have a wealth of new loot to find as well. Although the final DLC livestream was canceled, Bungie did put out a short trailer that gave players a brief look at some of the new gear, weapons, and exotic emotes available in the expansion.
In addition to content, today also brings the first in a series of updates that intend to fix many of the nagging issues holding the game back. Many of these pain points are shortcomings that have been spotlighted by the vocal community and include improvements to vendor inventory, introducing Masterwork tier for weapons, exotic duplication protection, and additional ways to spend in-game currency like Legendary shards.
Even with all this new content arriving in Destiny 2, today is also a weekly reset day. As always, fans have plenty to keep them occupied outside of all the new content including a new Nightfall, Flashpoint, and other milestones. Here’s everything Destiny 2 players need to know for the week of December 5, 2017.
This week the Nightfall Strike sends players to Nessus to fight inside of The Inverted Spire. At this point, players should be intimately familiar with the strike considering it was part of both the console and PC betas earlier this year.
The initial part of this strike is fairly straightforward, pitting the fireteam against both Vex and Cabal enemies with a few easy platforming segments mixed in. As players storm a mining facility, players will have to deal with increasing waves of Cabal, even going as far as taking out a few bunkers on the way to the main drilling site. After clearing out rooms full of Cabal, a man cannon takes players to the drill core, which will test players ability to avoid the huge spinning blades while pressing forward against an increasing number of Cabal.
At the end of the dig site, players will come upon Protheon, the modular mind. The room is smaller than most and this Vex minotaur has a penchant for turning the floor into lava or outright dissolving it completely. Shoot its head to score critical hit damage and make sure to continue moving to avoid the floor and waves of common enemies that also flood the area. After a third of its health is gone, the floor will dissolve, transitioning the battle to a new arena and the next phase. Use the spires to avoid the damaging floor and explosions.
Once the boss is down to half health, the floor dissolves again and the final phase begins. For a risky but effective strategy, equip a Riskrunner and stand in the damaging arc pool to unleash a storm of damage thanks to the passive ability which is triggered by taking arc damage. With just a sliver of health left, Protheon’s head will pop off giving it enhanced speed and a new weak spot on its stomach. Finish it off to end the mission.

With the start of season 2, the reset order has essentially restarted which means the European Dead Zone is the Flashpoint for the second week in a row. To complete this weekly milestone, players need to take part in public events, which fills a percentage meter. Eager players can get this done faster by triggering Heroic event modifiers, as completing those tougher challenges gives a small boost to the completion percentage. Finish the milestone before next Tuesday to earn a luminous planetary engram from Cayde-6.
With the reset comes five all-new treasure chests to find courtesy of the Hunter Vanguard, Cayde-6. Simply purchase the maps from him, and then track down the hidden stockpiles which offer some potentially interesting rewards. Players have a chance to receive anything from rare gear and glimmer to more interesting stuff like player emblems, exotic engrams, and items which can be turned in for more glimmer. It’s worth noting that opening all five chests in a row will diminish chances at loot due to Bungie’s chest lockout timer, even with the developer turning down the restriction in the latest update.
Here are the five general stash locations this week inside the EDZ:
As expected, the Leviathan Raid encounter order has shifted once again. While this not only helps to keep the experience fresh for veteran players, it also helps players new to the experience get used to the Raid while also giving them an opportunity to play each part even if struggling.

This week, the order is as follows:
With season 2, the highly requested Heroic Strikes playlist finally makes its return to the franchise. This playlist offers players a more difficult version of the normal Destiny 2 strikes and carries a recommended power level of 270. With the added difficulty, however, comes the opportunity for better loot. Complete three of them this week to earn this week’s powerful loot.
Heroic Strikes – Complete 3 heroic strikes.
Call to Arms – Win glory by participating and finishing anywhere between 4-6 PvP matches from either the Quickplay or Competitive playlists. Finish the milestone and return to Shaxx to earn his weekly engram.
And that’s all for this week, Guardians. Enjoy!
Destiny 2 is available now for PC, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.
