Pokemon GO Testing New Features Ahead of Next Event?

Over the past year and a half, Pokemon GO fans have seen a number of significant new features added to the game, with arguably the most notable being raid battles. Niantic has promised even more features for its popular mobile game in the future, and while details on those features remain scarce, fans may see them added to the game sooner rather than later.

Apparently, Niantic has been reaching out to popular Pokemon GO YouTube personalities and other prominent community members to invite them to a special event in Japan where they will test out new features for the game. This event is supposedly taking place next week, and so it will be interesting to see if any details on the new features are shared at that time.

As to what features Niantic could possibly be testing next week, there are numerous possibilities. It’s possible that Niantic is finally getting ready to roll out long-requested features like Pokemon trading and PvP battles, and is looking for feedback from Pokemon GO community members before releasing them worldwide. Since both Pokemon trading and PvP would require multiple people to test, this theory does make some sense.

Then again, Niantic may be bringing these individuals together to test something else in the game. One possibility that comes in mind is the addition of third generation Pokemon, which Niantic has previously stated would start rolling out to Pokemon GO fans in December. With gen 3 Pokemon set to join Pokemon GO in just a couple of weeks, it would make sense for Niantic to test things out in a smaller group and ensure there are no major technical issues with the update.

Beyond these possibilities, Niantic could be testing something completely different. Perhaps Niantic is looking to try out some of the new social features that are in the works for Pokemon GO, or maybe it has dreamed up a brand new feature that fans won’t see coming. Regardless, with this supposed invite-only testing event taking place next week, fans shouldn’t have to wait too much longer to find out what new features are coming to Pokemon GO in the near future.

Pokemon GO is available now for iOS and Android mobile devices.
